The Carpenter’s Table Community Outreach Center
In 2001 a concerned group of people from Tyger River Presbyterian Church, Joy Lutheran Church, and Nazareth Presbyterian Church organized a food pantry within Tyger River’s facility to provide assistance to people suffering from food scarcity on the west side of Spartanburg County. As the food pantry grew to address the increased needs within our community, it was quickly realized that a larger space was needed. In 2009 a “stand alone” facility was completed following The Carpenter’s Table incorporation as a non-profit tax exempt entity. Reidville Road United Methodist Church joined the other partnering churches to address these needs. Volunteers from all of the churches provide not only assistance with food scarcity, but other medical related assistance to those in our community. In 2011 The Carpenter’s Table was awarded a $6,000 grant to provide mammography screenings as well as PSA and cholesterol testing for those who are unable to afford these tests. Volunteers from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and DHEC are giving flu shots for the second year to those who cannot afford them.
