Witness
Elders: Mike Rudasill
As you leave the parking lot at The Tyger you read a sign at the edge of Reidville Road which reminds each of us we are reentering the Mission Field. The goal of the Witness Team is to identify and serve, through Christian love and compassion, those individuals or families who, for whatever reason, find they are on societies’ margins. Currently The Tyger supports the following ministries under the direction of the Witness Team to meet this goal:
- The Carpenter’s Table Community Outreach Center, www.thecarpenterstable.org
- Spartanburg Interfaith Hospitality Network, www.spihn.org
- Homes for Life, www.homes4lifesc.org
- Midway Residential Care Facility
- Angel Tree
- Threads of Love
These ministries are addressing food shortage by providing individuals food and other nonperishable items once a month (The Carpenters Table); providing shelter, meals, life skills training, and assisting in job and housing searches to homeless families (Spartanburg Interfaith Hospitality Network); providing hand painted birthday shoe boxes filled with word puzzles, toiletries, snacks, and other personal items for the resident of Midway Residential Care Facility; providing fellowship, meals and support for the young men transitioning when they “age out” of foster care through the Spartanburg County Department of Social Services or compete drug rehabilitation programs (Homes for Life); providing Christmas toys and clothes for the children of families identified by the Spartanburg County Department of Social Services (Angel Tree); and, the crocheting of infant burial gowns, hats, and booties.
The Witness Team currently meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm.
