New Sermon Series: Thirsty For Living Water

Jesus once said, “Those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty,” (John 4:13) So why are we Christians still thirsty? We still search restlessly for something more. What are we missing?
Maybe what we need is more of Jesus. Yet, in our desperate longing for God we try to satisfy our parched souls with so many other things. Success, money, true love and the endless pursuit happieness are but a few of the things we turn to in our vain attempt to quench our thirsty soul. These things we turn to, to quench our soul-thirst have become our idols. They have subtly removed our Lord from the center of our life.
We all have idols we worship. If you don’t believe me ask yourself: What are the things you dream about: What are the things you spend your money on? What, if you lost it, would make your life hardly worth living? What are the things that help tell you who you are? Chances are the answer to those questions unmasks some of your idolatry.
No wonder we are still restless, searching and thirsty. These counterfeit gods have left us exhausted, lonely and empty. Beginning Sunday January 8th I will be launching a new sermon series titled: Thirsty for Living Water. The series will be divided into three parts. Part one is titled: Our Thrist. During the week leading up to Lent I’ll be introducing the congregation to the counterfeit gods we turn to, to try and quench our thirsty soul. Part two is title: Living Water. Part two will run through the Lenten season and will invite the congregation to replace their counterfeit gods with the living God we know through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the only one who has the living water to quench our soul-thirst. Part three is titled: Staying at the Well. In part three we will look at ways to meet Jesus in the everyday longings of our heart.
Additionally, we will be kicking of a new concept during the week of January 2st called Sermon Based Growth Groups. These growth groups will consist of one leader and 8 – 12 participants who will use an extended study guide from the previous week sermon as the basis for their bible study. This will be a very cool way to grow in your faith by simply drilling deeper into the sermon.
On a personal note, preparing for this series has been demanding and riveting for me. During my preparation the Lord has graciously revealed some of the idolatry in my life. While that’s not be easy to accept God’s mercy has helped me see new ways I can draw near to him by unmasking my idols and replacing them with the living God. I pray that will be your experience as well.
